When may you overtake on the left?
Answer: When the vehicle in front is turning right and there is room
You may also pass on the left in slow traffic queues if they are moving more slowly than your lane.
Within what distance of a junction must you not park?
Answer: 10 metres
Parking near junctions blocks sight lines and makes turning difficult.
What does a solid white line along the edge of a bus lane usually mean?
Answer: The bus lane operates at the times shown on signs
Check the signs for times of operation. Penalty charges can apply for driving in a bus lane.
At a roundabout, who must you give way to?
Answer: Traffic approaching from your right, unless signs or markings say otherwise
Traffic already on the roundabout (coming from the right) has priority.
What is the national speed limit for a car on a single carriageway road?
Answer: 60 mph
That is the limit unless signs show a lower one. Never drive at a speed that is unsafe for the conditions.
What speed limit normally applies on a road with street lights?
Answer: 30 mph
A road with street lights is treated as built-up. Signs may show a different limit.
Where must you not park?
Answer: On a zigzag line approaching a pedestrian crossing
Zigzag lines keep the crossing visible. You must not park or overtake there.
When may you use your horn?
Answer: To warn other road users of danger or your presence
In built-up areas you must not sound it between 11:30 pm and 7 am, except when another vehicle poses a danger.
Where should you not overtake?
Answer: Approaching a bend where you cannot see clearly ahead
Never overtake if you cannot see far enough ahead to complete it safely. Also avoid junctions, level crossings and pedestrian crossings.
You approach a STOP sign. What must you do?
Answer: Stop at the line, even if the road is clear
A stop sign means you must come to a complete halt.
